Hello!
My name is Neil and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor, licensed with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association of Canada. I obtained intensive counselling training through my master’s degree from the University of Alberta, where our counselling program focused on supporting adolescent and youth mental health in both personal and school settings.
In addition to Thrive, I also work with teens at a large Edmonton high school supporting indigenous youth, counselling high school students on personal issues, doing career counselling for grade 12 students and instructing high school courses. I have extensive experience working with teens for over 15 years in a variety of professional settings. I am excited to be at Thrive three evenings a week, at both the Sherwood Park and Edmonton locations.
I work with teens and young adults on a range of presenting concerns, anxiety, depression, self-harm, anger issues, body image concerns, interpersonal relationships, gender and sexual identity, transitions from school to post secondary, & the world of work, self-esteem, and self-confidence.
I provide a person-centered approach to my counselling. My modalities include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT). I am looking forward to enhancing my practice with further education in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
My personal interests include spending time with my English Labrador Retriever, Ozzy. I spend much of my free time outdoors hiking, running, and exploring. I also enjoy staying active at the gym and playing hockey. In the summer I enjoy camping, biking, paddle boarding, and spending time at the lake. I am naturally curious and enjoy learning and educating myself.
I look forward to meeting you and working to support you in your needs.
Neil
