Hey!

If all journeys begin with a single step, my first step into mental health started in the junior high classroom. Standing in front of my students in my first year, I realized how many struggles that youth are carrying with them and the importance of receiving one-on-one support during adolescence.

Once I completed my Masters in Counselling and Applied Psychology and wrapped up five years as a junior high teacher, I made the jump from the classroom to the clinic, where I could focus on supporting teens in the one-on-one counselling space. My aim is to help kids to come to school ready to learn and able to love learning. I have completed a variety of clinical and psychoeducational assessments and worked with a wide variety of junior high and high school students, in addition to individual counselling.

I thrive when I get to work with kids and teens one-on-one and support families in making meaningful changes. I am all about meeting clients where they are at and capitalizing on their skills and abilities to help them feel fulfilled and connected. I use an integrative approach and pull from both cognitive and behavioural therapies, including CBT, ACT, DBT, and narrative therapy. My focus is on opening space for you and your experiences, and helping you understand and work through your challenges, heal the hurt, and find your favourite version of yourself.

As a sibling of someone with Autism Spectrum Disorder, I know that it takes a village of support, plus a generous amount of compassion, acceptance, and patience. My main area of interest is working with teens with ADHD and helping our youth better understand their strengths and struggles, while reaching their full potential with strategies tailored to their specific needs. I believe teens are capable of advocating for themselves if they know how to do so. I have obtained additional training for ADHD and executive function management, child and adolescent anger management, childhood anxiety, and youth crisis intervention. I am also a former KAIROS Indigenous Rights Blanket Exercise facilitator from my teaching days.

My colleagues would describe me as open, candid, and welcoming and my teens would describe me as helpful and caring with a generous sprinkling of humor and quirkiness.

Outside of work I am a mom to two little girls and a doodle, an avid coffee drinker, paint-by-numbers completer, and non-fiction book reader. My husband and I love to travel with our two daughters and find the “best kept secrets” of the places we’re travelling to - though it usually involves us finding coffee and pastries. We are an active family and are often out and about on the weekends exploring the city. I am also a life long learner, as I am always looking to advance my skills and knowledge in psychological assessments, counselling modalities, and psychology.

I look forward to meeting you!

Jill
