Hello!
My name is Rebecca, and I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and an Certified Teacher in Alberta. I received my master’s degree from Athabasca University and my teaching degree from Concordia University of Edmonton.
I have been an elementary school teacher for the last 12 years as well as a school counsellor for the last 6 years. I have extensive experience working with young children and have recently gained an interest in working with youth.
I understand that many people are challenged with situations that are not in their control, and this prevents them from reaching the full potential of who they are and who they want to be. My approach and the way in which I work with clients aims to assist them in being able to recognize, understand, and reflect on these challenges so they’re able to achieve and accomplish what is meaningful to them.
I use a calm, empathetic, and nurturing approach when working with clients. Developing a trusting therapeutic relationship is essential for my clients and I to be able to move forward with their challenges. I want clients to feel comfortable when working with me and leave our time with an encouraging and confident mindset.
The areas I work with clients in are anxiety, self-esteem, school concerns, motivation challenges, anger and stress management, family and friend relationship challenges, and grief & loss.
I always begin with a person-centered approach with clients to start building an authentic therapeutic relationship. Once this is developed, we’re able to strengthen addressing their challenges by finding an approach that continues to suit what they need. Therapeutic approaches I often use include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
When I am not counselling, I enjoy travelling with my husband, snuggling and running with my dogs, playing the piano, reading, or in the mountains snowboarding or camping.
I look forward to meeting you!
Rebecca
