MICHELLE THOMPSON
Registered Clinical COunsellor
Hi there! My name is Michelle. I am a Certified Canadian Counsellor and a trained Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist. I have a master’s degree in counselling psychology from Athabasca University and a Bachelor of Science in Guidance and Counselling from Northern Caribbean University. I have over eight years of experience as a Guidance Counsellor in the public school system. In my fourteen years of career experience, I have honed my skills working with children, adolescents, parents, and families. I believe therapy is a collaborative journey where I explore your lived experiences, challenges, and goals in a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space. My compassionate and client-centred approach is grounded in evidence-basedpractices tailored to your unique needs and experiences.
I specialize in working with children and adolescents and supporting parents. I have extensive experience in the elementary, junior and high school systems. I have vast experience working with children and teens with various mental health issues such as Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), autism, trauma, emotion regulation, self-esteem, obsessive-compulsive disorder and life transitions. Whether you’re seeking help for yourself or your child, my goal is to help you uncover your strengths, build resilience, and develop practical tools for lasting change.
In my practice, I use methods such as play, sand, and art therapy to help children and adolescents process trauma, build coping skills, and strengthen relationships. I also use an integrative approach and other creative interventions to help children express their emotions and overcome challenges.
I love spending time with my husband and two boys outside of work. I enjoy playing chess with my boys, playing hide-and-seek, painting, drawing, and going sledding in the winter. I also find time to socialize with friends, meet new people, and window shop. I enjoy reading stories with my kids and researching on the internet. My talents include singing, listening to music, and finding a relaxing moment to unwind. If you are looking for a therapist to help you navigate through your mental health challenges, I would love to meet you.
