JUSTIN WEIHER

registered CLINICAL COUNSELLOR

Pronouns: He/Him/His

Hello! My name is Justin. I am a clinical counsellor with a Master of Counselling Psychology specializing in clinical practice. As a therapist I look for the connections we have with ourselves, our family and friends, and how this can all impact our mental health.

Life can be challenging and some individuals may struggle more than others and you shouldn't have to go through all of that on your own. Sometimes just talking about some of these struggles can open up doors that will allow you to work through them and grow. I look at giving you a toolbox and filling it with various tools to help you work through any of the struggles you may be dealing with. I take an empathic, non-judgmental approach with compassion as well as honesty to help you grow and heal.

Although we are discussing serious issues at times, I like to bring humor into my sessions as it is always good to laugh when appropriate. My goal for each session is that you take at least one thing away that you can implement into your life or at minimum, think about and hopefully help you make some sort of positive change!

Prior to becoming a therapist, I was a teacher for elementary students, but also worked with middle school aged children. In addition to this, I was a personal trainer for over 10 years, working with various ages and populations. In these two professions, mental health played a key component of success, whether it be with friendships, grades, or physical goals.

Additionally I have coached several sports for various age groups, with mental health playing an integral role in the success of the athletes I worked with. I have experience working with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, overwhelming emotions, family dynamics, parental difficulties, and stress management.

I use a variety of therapeutic techniques including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), and Strength Based Therapy (SBT).

When I’m not working, I love spending time with family and friends. We love to travel and be active. I am a huge sports nut and love watching and participating in all sports - I am also an author and have written a fictional novel as well as a nonfiction book on building healthy relationships. I also love movies and hope to turn my novel into a film. I believe in a holistic approach to therapy and life as we all need balance between mind, body, and soul.

If you are struggling, I recognize that coming to therapy to discuss your concerns with a stranger can be scary, however I promise if you can give me a chance to help you, it could be just what you need to move forward and live your fullest and healthiest life.
